Website Hosting Costs UK

In this article, we share our thoughts and research we have completed when checking other suppliers for website hosting costs uk, which helped us build the packages we offer at Sliced Reality.

What is Web Hosting?

Web hosting providers are businesses that offer the services, storage, and technology that allow individuals or businesses to display their website on the Internet.

They are responsible for making the website available to anyone who is online, whether they search for it specifically or find it while surfing the web.

There are many different types of web hosts in the UK, but all of them provide space on a server, which is either owned or leased by clients.

Where to Start?

One of the biggest decisions in starting a new website is choosing the type of hosting that the site will require.

Cheap or free web hosts may not provide the resources and functionality required to build a successful online business, but newer and smaller websites using the most expensive of dedicated private servers are probably spending more than they need to and risking a loss of profitability that could be used to upgrade later.

Over the past few years, the hosting industry has changed a lot. Competition within the market has meant that web hosting companies have had to innovate along with reducing prices. To find the best web hosting company, we decided to observe and test each one basically on factors such as speed, customer support, security setup and ease of setup.

What Are the Options?

Let’s look at the free options available from providers like Wix, GoDaddy and Squarespace.

GoDaddy  is one of the largest websites hosting providers but, their actual cost is £179.88 with the limited storage space of just 10GB for a single website only.

This might be a good option for those who only need hosting for one single, small website however they do have on-going costs which will eventually set you back £8.99 per month after your first year expires.

Wix is another website hosting in the UK with the estimated cost of £182.  They are easy to setup, and get online with, however the website builder you must use can be frustrating and annoying at times.

Unless you take a premium package, Wix might also display ads on your website – so if you are serious about your online presence, you will need a premium package.

Another area to be cautious of is technically, you do not actually own the website you build with Wix – they still own the rights to the code you create.

Squarespace is, when compared with Godaddy and Wix, one of the better “simple to use” website builders in our opinion.

Their packages start at £180 per year (if you are a business) however, this does mean you will need to build your website using the online website builder and they do not provide personal email addresses.

Customer Service

Customer service is always a big talking point, especially with web hosting companies.

There’s such diversity in the market, especially when more and more affordable or cheap web hosting companies offer their services, it’s easy to question whether the service is going to be of a high standard or not.

Always look for a company that provides 24/7 support and that treat you like a partner, rather than another number.   When your site goes down, you want them to react, and quickly.

Website Security

One area that should not be compromised at any cost is security, it is always best to choose an internet website hosting company that offers 24/7 customer support and technical assistance.

Most hosting plans come with some features and tools, for example, web-page making software and an FTP application, but not all offer security as standard.  Once you start adding SSL Certificates to your package, the “low” cost can soon add up.

Get the Look!

Having a website that you’re proud of and which accurately reflects your brand is one of the most important aspects of any business.

Research has even suggested that having a website can increase turnover by around 45%. Despite this, it is estimated that around two million UK businesses still don’t have one.

As we mention here, there are several different types of website company’s in the UK some are easy to setup, however the likes of GoDaddy, Wix and Squarespace do NOT create the website for you.

This is purely down to you and your creative skills.  They do have templates which you can modify and place on your website, however most website builder tools are tricky to use and you end up spending days trying to get the look and feel of your website right.

And Finally..

In conclusion, our advice is to always calculate the full cost when searching for website hosting costs UK.

Most of the “website builder” providers charge more for the extras you probably will need – like a secure website.

Also, think of YOUR time – That is priceless right?

Calculate your time into your budget, as you will probably need to spend at least 8 hours fine tuning the website you create using the online website builders.

And also remember, you never actually own the intellectual property rights – if you were to change your mind and host your website somewhere else, there will be another charge for you to transfer your website.
